AB469: All seniors required to complete FAFSA or CADAA

All seniors are required to complete the FAFSA or CADAA in their senior year, unless they opt-out.

In order to maximize on financial aid opportunities, all seniors are strongly encouraged to submit a financial aid application.

Benefits of completing FAFSA:

-Receive free tuition at local community colleges under Promise Program

-Have access to direct unsubsidized loans (interest rates are fixed and often lower than private loans)

-Use as leverage later on to appeal financial aid if family's situation changes

-Make sure you don't miss out on any potential aid!

Opt-Out:

If you decide to opt-out from completing the FAFSA or CADAA, you must complete the opt-out form below and submit it to Mrs. Hubner or Ms. Chung.​

FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid​

In order to be considered for federal and state student aid, seniors (who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens) must file a FAFSA. The application is FREE. The application is available online starting October 1st. Students and parents must complete the FAFSA together because it asks for parents and student income information. Students who qualify for aid may be awarded grants, work-study and/or loans.

 

Application Timeline

October 1 -  Application available (*FAFSA for current seniors will be available by DECEMBER 31, 2023)

  • Apply for FSA ID (both student and one parent will need to apply separately)

  • Complete FAFSA

  • A week after FAFSA submission, create WebGrants4Students account. This is where a student can check if they were awarded a Cal Grant or Middle Class Scholarship.

  • GPA Verification is automatically uploaded by the district. 

March 2 - Priority deadline for Cal Grant Eligibility. 

Note: Private colleges may request for the FAFSA by an earlier date.

Middle Class Scholarship (MCS): Scholarship for students with family incomes/assets up to $165,000; student must attend UC or CSU campus

CADAA - California Dream Act Application

Undocumented students or AB540 students can complete the DREAM Act Application, in order to be considered for state student aid. The application is FREE. The application is available online starting October 1st. Students and parents must complete the DREAM Act Application together because it asks for parents and student income information. Students who qualify for aid may be awarded grants, work-study and/or loans.

  • Complete CA DREAM Act Application

  • A week after CADAA submission, create WebGrants4Students account. This is where a student can check if they were awarded a Cal Grant or Middle Class Scholarship.

  • GPA Verification is automatically uploaded by the district.

CSS PROFILE
The CSS PROFILE is an application for institutional financial aid. This application is used by select colleges and universities to award institutional aid. The CSS Profile should only be submitted if you are applying to a college that requires it.
